Following the issuance of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 S.14: Temporary Prohibition of Traffic for New Road and Gunpool Lane, Boscastle, from 9th September 2024 to 20th September 2024 (08:00 to 18:00 hours), representatives of the Parish Council held a meeting with Cornwall Councillor Barry Jordan and the contractor responsible for the works.
During the meeting, the Parish Council expressed significant concern over the planned road closure. The Council emphasised a strong preference for maintaining access to small vehicles and light goods vehicles (LGVs) throughout the duration of the works, while implementing a diversion for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and using traffic light control measures to manage the flow of traffic.
In response, the contractor provided details of the work required, specifically highlighting a 120-meter stretch of road that needs attention and that it stretches across the carriageway in one section needing a full closure at that point. The contractor indicated that approximately 40 meters of road could be completed each day. Despite the Council’s concerns and the preference for minimised disruption, it is with disappointment that the full closure order has been re-issued as originally planned.
However, it is hoped that the closure will not be necessary for the entire period described. The Council remains optimistic that the contractor will endeavour to minimise the closure duration and maintain some level of access where possible. The Council will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with all parties to try to reduce the impact on local residents and businesses where it can.
