Community Emergency Information

The Community Emergency Plan has been developed to help residents prepare for emergencies before they happen and to support our community during incidents such as flooding, severe weather, prolonged power outages and telecommunications failures. Here you’ll find practical advice, downloadable resources and the latest information from the Parish Council.

Here you’ll find emergency numbers, local risks, and practical steps to stay safe — plus ways you can help your neighbours.

If the emergency plan is activated, the Parish Council may open an Community Emergency Hub at Boscastle Community & Recreation Centre, Fore Street, Boscastle, PL35 0AU. It offers:

• A warm and safe place
• Power and lighting (where available)
• Communications access (where available)
• Updates from the Emergency Team

Community resilience starts with people. Whether you’d like to become a volunteer, can offer equipment or premises, or simply want to learn more, we’d love to hear from you.

🟥🟩 Red/Green emergency leaflet system

Every household in the parish will receive a special double-sided leaflet as part of our Community Emergency Plan.

This leaflet is not just information – it’s also a simple signal system to help neighbours and volunteers check quickly who may need help during an incident. This system does not attract immediate emergency services attention; call 999 for urgent help.

How it works

• Green side facing out means you are safe and aware of the emergency.
• Red side facing out (in your window or doorway) means you need help or someone to check in.
• No leaflet showing may indicate the resident has not received the message or may need a check-in.

Why this matters

During floods, storms, or power cuts, communications can fail. The leaflet gives us a visual way to check households quickly and safely without needing phones or internet.

If you lose your leaflet

If your leaflet becomes damaged or lost, please contact the Parish Clerk and a replacement will be delivered. Spare copies will also be kept at the {insert location}.

This system helps us look after each other – neighbours can confirm who is safe, and volunteers know where help may be needed first.
