Following concerns raised by residents about a number of road traffic accidents at the B3266 Tintagel–Launceston (Waterpit Down) junction, the Parish Council has been actively engaging with the relevant authorities to seek clarity and improvement at this location.
The Parish Council has liaised directly with Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Highways to better understand the nature and frequency of incidents at the junction. As part of this work, the Council requested detailed collision data to help identify patterns and assess what measures might realistically reduce risk.
The information provided by Cornwall Highways confirms that, over the past five years, there have been five collisions resulting in slight injuries and one resulting in serious injury at this junction. While these figures form the official record, the Parish Council recognises that they may not capture the full picture. Residents frequently report near misses and unreported incidents, which are not always reflected in formal statistics but remain a cause of genuine concern.
At present, there is no immediate engineering or traffic management solution identified within existing road safety budgets. This is understandably disappointing. However, the Parish Council wants to reassure residents that this matter has not been dropped. The Council has used, and will continue to use, all available channels — including ongoing dialogue with Cornwall Highways and continued engagement with Cornwall Council — to press for a safer outcome.
The Parish Council also encourages residents to continue reporting concerns, incidents, or near misses. This can be done by emailing the Parish Council or raising the issue in person at a Council meeting. Community input remains vital in strengthening the case for future action.
Road safety is a shared concern, and the Parish Council remains committed to advocating for improvements wherever possible.
